Come Ride the Perham Express Train
Perham is the namesake of Joseph Perham, the first man to conceive the idea of building a railroad from
Over 120 years later, in the late 1990’s a small group of volunteers, led by (Carl Annalora and now currently by Len Johnson) had a dream build a trolley like train to represent the Perham area and its beginnings as a railroad town. They began by building the train engine from an old 1978 Ford Bronco and eventually constructed the passenger car from scratch and filled it with old donated bus seats from the Bauck Busing Co. The bell and train whistles you’ll hear while riding the Perham Express are from the original train that passed through Perham so many years ago.
Today, Lenny and the Perham Express Train has taken thousands of passengers on a historical tour around Perham and been in nearly every area parade. The Perham Express Train is sponsored by the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce and is run entirely by volunteers. You can ride the Perham Express Train each Wednesday from Memorial Day to Labor Day from 10 am to 12 pm. The train departs from it’s depot outside the Perham Area Chamber approximately every 20 minutes. Rides are only $2. Make sure your visit includes a ride aboard the Perham Express Train. All aboard!!
