Tourists have been drawn to the Perham area since the 1800's because of our lush landscape and gorgeous lakes. Today, people still travel from miles around to find rest and relaxation in our calming lakeside resorts, on our golf courses and in our restaurants. They come to find that elusive antique in one of our many specialty shops, to land that prize walleye, and to just enjoy life in the way that only a small town in lake country can offer.
Historically, Perham is named after Josiah Perham, the first President of the Northern Pacific Railroad. The railroad arrived in Otter Tail County in 1871. A mercantile store was erected on the north side of the tracks the next year and Perham has been prospering ever since. Perham is now a city of over 2,559 and boasts of an impressive business community based upon industry, agriculture, and tourism.
So come and experience the small town atmosphere as you stroll along our tree-lined cobblestone walks. Peruse over 20 unique gift and specialty shops to find locally made treasures and candies, furniture, countless antiques, coffee shops, clothing, sporting goods, home decor and more.
